The restaurants on this trip have road access, but nobody finds them by accident. They sit far back from anything you would call a main road, on stretches of bank where the forest comes down to the water. Locals know them. Visitors almost never do.
Arriving by boat is the point. You come at them from the river, the way the people who eat there have always come, and you tie up a few steps from the table.
The boat is a pasara — the traditional Belgrade river boat, V-hulled, so it cuts through the wake of passing barges instead of slapping over it. Five guests at most. There is shade, there is room to move, and there is nobody else’s tour group on board.

How the day runs
- 15 min
Boarding
I meet you at the pontoon and help you aboard. Everyone gets a seat, a life jacket and a short safety brief, then I spread out the map and show you where we're going.
- 45 min
Down the Sava
Past the waterfront and under the bridges to the point below Kalemegdan where the Sava runs into the Danube. On a clear day you can see the line where the two waters meet before they mix.
- 90 min
Lunch under the trees
We tie up at a wooden pontoon and step onto the terrace. Family kitchen, fish soup to start, then grilled river fish with bread and salad. No rush — this is the part of the day you came for.
- 40 min
Back upriver
An easy run home with the light lower on the water, which is when the fortress and the bridges look their best. Same pontoon we left from.
